Mission

We are looking for candidates at the PhD level with expertise in metallurgical process modelling across diverse computational domains to tackle a range of industrial challenges across various stages of steel processing.

The R&D Modelling Engineer will work in project teams, in close collaboration with production, maintenance and technical sales on industrial R&D problems.

Projects cover all areas of steel production from mineral processing to ironmaking, steelmaking, rolling and galvanizing. The composition of project teams is adjusted to project needs and scope.

The R&D Modelling Engineer will have opportunity to contribute to a number of different projects on product and process development.

Main Responsibilities

• Expert contribution to research and development projects aimed at new product development or optimization of production processes.
• Development of sophisticated computer models of metallurgical processes.
• Contribution to development of external partner network, both from academia and industry.

Profil

Background

• PhD in Material Sciences, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Metallurgy.
• 3+ years of experience in modelling and simulation for the steel industry.
• Experience in modelling of steel production processes (e.g. Steel Making, Continuous Casting, Hot Rolling, Continuous and Batch Annealing).

Skills

• Expertise in one or more of the following computational simulation domains: Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Computational Solid Mechanics (FEM), Thermo-Kinetics and Microstructure Simulations, Flow Sheet Modelling, Data Science (e.g. Machine Learning).
• Knowledge and experience with one or more relevant software packages (e.g. ANSYS Mechanical, ANSYS Fluent/CFX, ABAQUS, THERCAST, Thermo-Calc, DICTRA, FactSage, Matcalc, MICRESS, MetSim etc).
• Programming (e.g. python, C/C++, Fortran).
• Languages: Excellent English / French is a plus.

• Be at ease navigating through a large and complex corporate environment.
• Strong communication skills.
