Mission

We are looking for candidates at the MSc or PhD level with a strong background in data analysis with focus on development of data-driven computer models (digital twins) of metallurgical production processes.

The R&D Data Scientist will work in project teams, in close collaboration with production, maintenance and technical sales on industrial R&D problems.

Projects cover all areas of steel production from mineral processing to ironmaking, steelmaking, rolling and galvanizing. The composition of project teams is adjusted to project needs and scope.

The R&D Data Scientist will have opportunity to contribute to a number of different projects on product and process development.

Main responsibilities

• Development of machine learning models based on real production data.
• Contribution to research and development projects aimed at new product development or optimization of production processes.
• Computer programming for coupling and integration of different tools, visualization and data processing.
• Contribution to development of external partner network, both from academia and industry.

Profil

Background

• MSc in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics or a PhD in a technical field (Materials Science, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy) with substantial experience in data analysis and modelling.
• Knowledge and experience in data modelling for industrial production processes. Experience in steel industry would be a plus.

Skills

• Strong experience in some of the following areas:
• Visualization and Data Processing (Python, Matlab, Origin, etc).
• Advanced statistics (e.g. Python, R, Matlab).
• Machine Learning (e.g. Phyton, Matlab, RapidMiner).
• Tools for deep learning, neural networks and related frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, CNTK, Pylearn2, Caffe, Theano, etc).
• Computer Vision.
• Demonstrated experience in computer programming.
• Experience in coupling and integration of different tools would be a plus.
• Languages: Excellent English / French is a plus.

Additional Skills and Competencies

• Demonstrated experience with business insight, collaboration, customer centricity.
• Be at ease navigating through a large and complex corporate environment.
• Strong communication skills.
