As part of strengthening our fire safety policy, we are looking for a Fire Protection Engineer to lead, structure, and optimize our fire protection systems and procedures.
Function
As a Fire Protection Engineer at NLMK La Louvière, your mission is to oversee, maintain and continuously improve the fire safety systems across the site. You will ensure all detection, extinguishing, and prevention mechanisms are in place, compliant with regulations, and effectively communicated to operational teams. This includes both hands-on field work and strategic coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
Role & Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and monitor fire detection and extinguishing systems in accordance with Belgian and international standards.
- Supervise the inspection, reconditioning, and maintenance of fire extinguishers and fixed protection systems.
- Ensure compliance with protection standards: cable tightening, fire-resistant doors, and Belgian legal obligations related to fire safety.
- Conduct regular site audits and risk assessments to identify potential fire hazards and improvement opportunities.
- Manage external contractors responsible for installation, maintenance, and upgrades of fire protection systems.
- Deliver field training sessions to staff on fire safety systems and emergency response procedures.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, compliance records, and intervention reports.
- Support incident investigations related to fire risks and contribute to root cause analysis.
- Provide regular reporting and KPIs to EHS and management teams regarding fire protection performance.
- Participate in budget planning for fire protection infrastructure investments.
- Work closely with the Safety department.
Profile
Expertise
- Engineering degree (or equivalent) with specialization in safety, fire protection, or industrial risk management.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in fire protection or safety engineering, preferably in a heavy industrial environment.
- Strong knowledge of fire protection standards (NFPA, EN, APSAD) and legal safety requirements in Belgium.
- Experience working with fire detection, suppression systems, and related inspection protocols.
- Fluent in French with technical proficiency in English.
